When I first saw a photo of miscanthus giganteus, I thought, great, instead of building a trellis for a clematis in the middle of my yard, I can just grow one.

I like the class three clematis, which means I would be cutting down both the clematis and the grass in late winter/early spring. The first clematis that came to mind is C.texensis.

Is M. giganteous rigid enough for this? If not, is there another ornamental that might be a better choice?
