Jackie...it will be difficult, at best.

First of all, it will be tough to put together a 3' tall hedge of grasses which will be evergreen in your zone. This means you'll have to cut the grasses to the ground once a year, and wait a few months until they regrow, to have any screening from them.

Secondly, the crushing. I assume you're going to pull the trailer through the grasses a few times a year. I fear you'll crush them beyond bouncing back. It probably wouldn't kill them, but the foliage will be broken, and will stay that way until after you've cut it back.

One possible solution to the crushing problem would be to grow a section of the row in pot/socket containers. You basically bury a large container in the ground, and place a slightly smaller pot, with the grass, into the buried socket. Then when you move the trailer, you simple pull the pots from their sockets and set them aside, lay a sheet of plywood over the sockets, and move the trailer over it.

Any suggestions on a 3-4 foot grass which works well as a screen/hedge in our 7b area?

There are literally dozens and dozens of grasses which will grow to 3-4' in height, and are suitable for your zone.

Spend some time on the Bluestem Ornamental Grass Comparison Chart. You'll find all the dimensions of each grass, along with water and sun needs, etc.. Each listing has much more data and photographs behind it. Between that site, and Google Images, you'll get an idea for the various heights and habits of the grasses.
