If your other warm season grasses are up and growing, those ones are probably toast. I think you'll know for sure by the end of May.

YOu were right. The winter killed a lot of grasses.

Here it is mid June and I have giant holes to fill.

The survivors are overdam, eldarado, , elijah blue, and sapphire blue oat grass, a few blades of giganteus,and a few blades of maiden hair, and a few of mak. "aureu" or whatever that golden one is.

Other than these I'm done with ornamental grasses forever. I thought grasses would be easier and cheaper than shrubs. I was wrong.

You have to have the right grass in the right spot. In that respect they are no different than shrubs or any other plant. If it was a rough winter then I imagine many plants didn't fare any better.
Research grasses that are native to your area or native to areas that are also zone 5A. Those may be a bit tougher. But you are always going to have losses after a hard winter. It's just natures way of strengthening the species.
