When do Ornamental Grasses sprout in the spring?

| I planted several varieties of ornamental grasses last season and they did phenomenal - growing quite large and adding substantial new growth after planting. In late fall, after they had died off for the season, I trimmed them back to about 2-3 inches or so, and used a good bed of mulch around the root and cutbacks. This spring, so far, not a single one as sprouted. My gardens are virtually all perennials of numerous varieties and everything came back quite strong, as they have done year after year, but not the grasses. I was told that the grasses sprout later in the season, but even my calla lillies are up and running. Thoughts, anyone, as to what happened? thank you so much |

| They should pretty much all be active by now. Some of my cool season grasses are already blooming, and tall grasses, both cool and warm season, are as tall as 4' by now. It's hard to say what got them. Did you have a colder or wetter than usual winter? What did you mulch them with? Do they have adequate drainage? What species and cultivars did you plant? Where did they come from? |
