With it's yellow segments I would think anything with purple in it would look nice. In my zone 6 garden this plant has flopped over by mid-fall. NOT very impressive! If your grass stays upright, perhaps a mounding plant would make a nice contrast. Something with a different leaf texture, like a spirea. Frankly, given MY experience with the plant, I do not like it! It is hard to respond to your question without more details....

Mine has lost its yellow segments. It is now in its fourth year and it is a large clump (which doesn't fall over much for me, I'm glad to say, but I do tie it about 1 foot above the ground in late summer). Why could it have lost its yellow segments? ~Chills

Chills -- I bet your Zebra grass has its bands now...it is a question of heat. mine didn't band until summer was well on. Mine is a 'strictus' and is better than the zebrinus in that it does not flop at all.
