Ah! Me too! I bought several grasses this June.
The two maiden grasses, look dried out on top, and
curling leaves. I thought about cutting the tops off,
but don't know if that will be ok with the plant?

It's not uncommon for newly purchased and planted grasses to suffer some shock from a change in environment. They frequently will show this by browning and curling, especially on the more mature blades.

I would not cut them back now. Those cut blades will continue to grow in length, and will look all wrong, with squared-off ends where they were cut. Just give them normal new plant care for the rest of their growing season. Water them deeply and as frequently as your rainfall indicates, but don't over water them, and don't fertilize them unless you use a very dilute compost tea. After they go dormant for the winter, follow normal procedures, and cut them back in early spring, two 3-4" from the crown. They should come back fine.

Mary..you probably should consider mulching yours if you don't have sufficient snow cover during the coldest part of the winter. Cut them back, and pile coarse mulch, like pine boughs and needles over them to provide winter protection.
