Did I divide to late & kill my grass?

I have some Maiden Grass that I wanted to divide because it was pushing on my perennials too much. Well last weekend I bit the bullet and finally pulled this monster out and divided into 3 parts. One I put back where this one was, one I planted in the ground and the 3rd piece is in a pot. Well they started to droop right away, which didn't surprise me after being divided like that and one day they even looked like they were getting better but now 6 days later they're starting to dry out on the top and are still drooping really really bad. I didn't plan on the weather staying this hot so is that what's doing them in or did I just make a major blunder dividing them this late in the season. Also do you think that they would do better if I just cut them back or what that make everything even worse.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Strouper
