Ornamental Grass

looking for a sedge for my zone

I planted some variegated Japanese sedge last year knowing that it was a zone 5 grass, but I mulched it very well, and only about half of the plants survived our Iowa winter, even with the great snow cover. Could anyone suggest something that looks similar to Japanese sedge or Hakonea grass and is for zone 4? I love the color, size and texture of the Japanese sedge in shady areas. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them. Thanks

Go to the link below. It's a comparison chart of grasses and sedges from Bluestem.ca, a website which specializes in grasses for cold climates. There are quite a few Carex varieties which will work for you.

Note..they don't list any Hakone varieties. The lowest zone rating I've seen for them is 5, and even that requires protection.
