Santa Rosa Gardens is having a Summer Clearance sale!

They are a specialist in Ornamental Grasses, and have some incredible deals right now...plants reduced from as much as $8.99 to as low $1.99.

In addition, if you buy $150 worth of plants, shipping is free..which saves a bundle!

I've bought grasses from these people before, and the quality of product and service is spectacular.

I just placed an order for 89 plants! $154.49 delivered.

I'm finally going to try some zone-denial plants like zone 8 Pennisetums ('Prince' and 'Princess'), and some new stuff like Pennisetum 'Pennstripe' and some new Miscanthus, as well as dozens of Carexes.

    Donn,

I think Prince and Princess may get moved to a zone 7.

Have you seen the new Pennisetum hybrids out of the University of GA trials...Pennisetum Princess Caroline and Princess Molly? Great color!!!

Here is a link that might be useful: New Pennisetum hybrids

grass_guy..I've only seen them on the Athens Select website. I really like them, especially 'Princess Molly.'

I have high hopes for 'Prince' and 'Princess.' I've only had 3 nights below 10°F in the past 5 years, and the coldest was 5°. I'm looking into potential ways to protect them during cold spells.

I went even crazier, and ordered 5 copies of Duranta erecta 'Cuban Gold' based on Santa Rosa's zone 7b rating. Then I read up on it, and find it appears to be much more tender than that. There also seems to be some discrepancy over mature size. I guess I'll have to grow it in pots, and bring it into the sunroom over the winter.

I just checked the "Growers" section of the Athen's Select website. 'Prince' and 'Princess' are rated zone 7b. In the "Gardeners" section, they're zone 8.

Excitement is growing. My order shipped today, and all 71.5 pounds are due to arrive Friday.

One small variation...they only had 2 of the 5 Miscanthus sinensis 'Dixieland' I ordered, so they substituted 3 Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus.' I don't have any of them, so it's not really a problem, but I wish they had subbed something closer in size.

All I can say is WOW!

The order arrived this morning, a day early.

Everything was perfect! Packaging was flawless and the plants were absolutely protected. Each plant gets a mesh stocking first, followed by several wraps of brown craft paper. All were quite moist, and all pot medium was where it needed to be...in the pots.

The quality of the plants is top-notch, especially for summer. Very little damage to foliage, and only a few of the larger items were at all pot-bound.

I'm so impressed with Santa Rosa I sat down and placed another order for 79 more clearance items. When I paid with Paypal, they immediately sent me a partial refund, to cover the Duranta from the first order.

First class product, customer service and prices!

Not that i 'need' any more grasses - but that's not the point, is it?
