Dividing grasses at this time of year

I had a client who wanted to have his clump of Hakonechloa thinned out. I saved the chunks I managed to dig out and I'm hoping to incorporate them into my garden. Having learned that these are slow growing, what are my chances of having these divisions live?

Also, I have a large Panicum amarum 'Dewey Blue' I just purchased from a nursery. Should I hold off trying to divide this plant until next spring or could I pull it off if I keep the small divisions well watered and cared for in a nursery?

Thank you in advance for your advice. I'm just starting out with ornamental grasses.

Since they're both warm-season grasses, and you have at least a few warm months coming, you should have no trouble with either of them. I just potted up several divisions of Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal' and Pennisetum orientale 'Karley Rose' and they are already growing new foliage after complete cut-backs in early June. Same results with 3" potted, and bareroot Miscanthus sinensis 'Gold Bar' and 'Gracillimus' and Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah.' Within a couple of days of potting them up, new foliage began to appear. I'll put them all in the ground in early fall, either in sockets, or fully planted out.
