how much cold can sugarcane take?

Hi everyone,

new to this forum, and I need your help!

I wanted to know how hardy is sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) and it's purple varieties.

I like all pics of it that I see online and would like to get if it's worth the effort.

I am in zone 9, and for example Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum' is hardy for me, whereas Pennisetum 'Burgundy Giant' isn't.

Does anyone in zones 8 and 9 had any experience with it?
