Overgrown Floppy Miscanthus Needs to be Cut Back

I have always viewed Miscanthus as a maintenance free perennial. Aside from a hard pruning in early spring, these plants take care of themselves. Right? Well this summer one Miscanthus in particular has grown to over 6 feet tall and is flopping over on itself (and other nearby plants). I am very tempted to prune off the top half of this Miscantus, but I do not know how it will respond to a mid-summer hacking. I assume that like the much shorted lawn varieties, new growth will quickly appear (big assumption on my part). Any advice on how Miscanthus reacts to pruning this time of year would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
