Miscanthus only sprouting around the edge

I had a beautiful stand of miscanthus grass last year, but this year there are only shoots coming up around the edges, but nothing in the middle. We had a long winter here in central Michigan, with two freezes late in May, so I am guessing this is the result of frost damage. Can the plant be saved, or should I just try again?

At this time of year, you aren't likely to see any miracles. I'd chop off the section with energy and pot up or plant. You might be surprised ho wmuch growth you get out of that.

As far as the clump, likely the warm-cold yo-yo got to it.

Like a lot of perennials, some Miscanthus expand outward as they grow, leaving a dead hole in the center of the clump. It may have to be dug up and replanted. The outer edges of the clump should be able to be saved.
