Grass with orange berries?

Posted by steve22802 7a VA (My Page) on

I was visiting a friend's home recently and she had a simple dried arrangement in her half bath that included attractive dried grass stems which had striking bright orange dried berries at the top. When I asked her about them she said she had found them growing wild along the roadside near her home but she had no idea what the name was. Can anyone tell me what this plant might be? (We are located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, if that helps.)

Thanks,
Steve

I don't know of any grass with orange berries. In fact, the only grass I know of with berries of any color, isn't even a grass.

A couple of members of the Ruscaceae family, Liriope and Ophiopogon, look like grasses, but are not. They produce bluish to purple berries.
