Help to identify this grass please.

Can anyone tell me what kind of ornamental grass this is? It's a large clump about 4 feet tall. Does it bloom and if so, when? We just moved here in June and I am not familiar with grasses. Thanks!

It's really hard to tell from a fairly long-range photo and with the glare of sunlight on it.

I'll guess it's either a broad-leaved Miscanthus sinensis cultivar or Saccharum ravennae. It looks a bit like it's developing some stout bloom stalks, which would make it S. ravennae.

Either of them will bloom...when depends on where you are.

Thank you, I am in the Midwest zone 5.
Here is a closer look at the grass :)

I'm pretty sure it's Saccharum ravennae. Look inside and see if it's starting to send up very stout cane-like stalks. Those will shoot up like rockets over the next few weeks, and will sprout long tassel-like flower panicles. The canes will reach at least 10-12' in height.

Oh thank you so much! I'll be looking foreward to seeing what it does :)

My pleasure. Post another pic when it's in flower, so we can confirm the ID.
