Replacement for Pennisetum Moudry?

I have two types of pennisetum in my garden: p. moudry and p. orientale. moudry has really outgrown its spot and seems to be spreading all over the place, even though it's watered by drip, so I'd like to replace it. The grasses are interplanted with berberis, so I'd like to find another green-leaved grass (or maybe even another spiky plant--dayllily?) for contrast with the burgundy color of the berberis. Any suggestions? Deer are a concern in my area, so I have plant something they don't like.

Your 'Moudry' is probably reseeding. Mine do, and I'm in a much cooler zone.

I assume you want to maintain the same general size as 'Moudry.'

Most Carex are deer resistant, and in your zone you can choose from a remarkable variety of colors, blade shape etc..

Most Miscanthus are deer resistant, and there is a good number of dwarf, and/or slow-growing cultivars.

Other possibilities to consider:

Hakonechoa macra

A variety of Acorus cultivars. (Not a grass, but looks like it is.)

A variety of Muhlenbergia cultivars.

Other Pennisetum cultivars. 'PennStripe' is a dandy, as is 'Karley Rose.'
