zone info for purple fountain grass

Please provide data on the success factor of purple fountain grass coming back up in the spring. I researched it for my area (upper zone 7) but now wish to have some input for my friend in North Carolina which is a bit warmer. Tag said hardy to 10 degress. How truthful is this? I did see some spreads about it not being hardy in Zone 8.

Can I get some feedback, it would be great if those in NC could respond.

I have 3 books which rate it to zone 9 or above, and everything else I've read says that leaves will brown at 32Â°F and the plant will die in the mid-20's.

It has never survived a winter in my zone 7a/b garden.

I bought 5 purple fountain grass last year. Temp dipped to 12 degrees one night where I am at - every single one died. Good thing about Home depot - they took them all back and gave me a refund.
