Need ideas for disguising the AC unit

Our AC unit sits just outside the garage. It's probably two and a half feet tall. I'd like to plant 2-3 clumps of ornamental grass around it, with perennials in between for color. I'm looking for something that will be 3'-4'. It's a northern exposure and gets sun all morning and a bit past noon and then shade from the house for most of the rest of the day.

Any suggestions?

There are lots of potential candidates. Take a look at the comparison chart, linked below, from Bluestem.ca, and see what tickles your fancy.

Keep in mind, almost any grass that tall, in your zone, will need to be cut to the ground in late winter - early spring, and won't regain it's full height until early summer at the earliest. Therefore, you'll have less than full screening for several months.
