Flopping Miscanthus

grassboro

I have a m.Silberfeder that I planted this past spring from a one gallon pot. It has grown about three feet tall but the outer stalks have flopped and are laying on the ground. The stalks in the center are standing tall. The plant looks healthy otherwise. Why it flopped like this I dont really know. It is planted in amended clay and I have had water retention issues down in planting holes in some of the other plants I have planted. I have been watering it some with the 90-100 degree temps we have constantly had this summer with not much rain. My other miscanthuses (Adagio and Graziella) have not flopped at all. I have treated these plants the same.

Does anyone have any experience and/or thoughts on what may have caused this? Also, would it help this plant to trim away the flopped stalks?
