Can someone please help me identify the grass on the right (little darker green tufts - are the considered a grass?). This was found in a zone 9 area. Any help is appreciated.

It's hard to tell from the distance of the photo, but it may be Festuca scoparia, AKA Bearskin Fescue.

Can you post a close-up?

They appear to be Armeria maritima, which explains why they're in part shade, maybe only hardy to zone 8.

It could be clumps of scottish moss...
