I "mulch" all my grasses, and many other beds with a mix containing mostly quarter minus gravel. This provides excellent drainage, aeration, weed suppression etc. without the issues of traditional mulch. Mind you, I still mulch rhodies and other stuff with the regular composted stuff. Nasella will benefit from gravel and the seedlings will be easy to scratch out if they show themselves.
