Shenandoah Switch Grass Oddity

I have many grasses and about 10 clumps of Shenandoah..I know the seeds are viable, though not to a great extent. I also know that the seeds need cold stratification. My question; I have seeds that actually germinated on the top of the grass..they are on one stalk..and the grass is about 1" tall..i cut the stalk off and put them in a pot and they are now growing..anyone seen this yet? I may have a dwarf version in the works i hope. The same grass did the same thing the season before. I was in Iraq so i didnt see it, but last years seed heads are there, and on top of one of them is dried out little blades of grass that sprouted. This grass is planted at my grandparents grave...none of mine have it, nor have i ever seen it...Thoughts??
