I'd shave it back again. Supposedly, when the weather cools, it'll put on a new growth spurt.

Thanks for your input Donn -- nothing I've encountered indicates a second cutting is warranted, it's just that my instincts lead me to believe that cutting back again is the right thing to do. I'll put a post on if the plant dies...
