Grass for back of house

I've fallen in love with the pink Muhly grass and want to use it as a easy to care for back of house border since I yanked up all those annoying thorny bushes. I've got dogs so can't plant anything that could injury or poison them.

Just to verify, is Muhly grass safe for them to run thru or possibly chew on if they get stupid?

I was also thinking that just putting a wall of muhly grass might look a lil silly and I saw this cute photo of grass that looked kind of wheatish to me as a backdrop? Could someone tell me what it is please from the pic? Or I also googled some and saw sugarcane had a similar grass effect?

Or any other recommendations as a nice backdrop for this beautiful grass would be appreciated!

The grass behind the Muhly looks like one of the Calamagrostis x acutiflora cultivars. What you're seeing is the drying blooms, as it is a cool season grass and blooms much earlier than Muhly.

I've never read anything about Muhly being toxic.

I don't grow any Muhly's - They won't survive up here :o(
So I am not speaking from first hand experience...

Since you say your dogs might very well be bounding thru your garden, you might want to check & see what the grass seed awns are like on Muhly grasses. Some grasses for instance, foxtail grass & all Stipa spp. have nasty 'awns' that can work their way into your pets skin & cause
infections. Just something to consider.
An 'awn' is the tail of the seed structure.
