Anyone growing seep muhly?

I just discovered this forum and this is the first time I've posted anything here. Glad to find it as I have a lot of grasses.

I planted a few seeps this spring and they just look awful. I think I should have cut the dormant foliage to the ground. I left it at 3 inches and they don't have much green growing up through it.

If I cut them back now, to encourage more green growth, will I lose out on the fall flowers (seed heads)? If you're not familiar with seep muhly it is similar to gulf coast muhly, but needs less water, supposedly, and the pink smoke/seed heads are not as vibrant as the gulf coast m.
