Ornamental Grass

I'm used to planting grasses in pretty much any kind of soil with nothing but some original organics and the breakdown of mulch to follow as being enough. I now have a situation with grasses planted in compacted gravel/stone dust around an in-ground pool, with just non-organic stone on the surface instead of bark mulch. The grasses went in with a fair amount of organic compost, but it seems like I'll need to feed them something eventually. Suggestions?

I'm just starting out with ornamental grasses myself, but i recently read that they like high nitrogen. Compost would be good; if you don't make your own you can buy chicken manure compost at walmart and home depot. That's what I'm going to do in the next couple of weeks.

High nitrogen will cause your grasses to flop. I would just plant in your native soil with no ferts and see how they do. I have mine growing in plain sandy soil and the grasses are massive.
