Is it a grass?

I was in Missouri this weekend and saw amazing oramental grass that grew about 12-16 feet tall. It had blooms like Pampas, but the leaves were more like corn stalks, not as blade-like as most grasses. I've seen it once in Ohio. Does anyone know recognize this? Thanks much!

Probably Arundo donax, AKA Giant Reed.

Yes, it's a grass. There's the plain green species, and a variegated cultivar.

I agree....very popular here in Missouri....they get HUGE and make a great display for a backdrop.
