It's hardy to zone 5. I grew it successfully in the snow belt in NE Ohio, where it always had a good snow cover in winter. It can be grown from seed, and the best place to get them is on the Seed Exchange Forum, right here at GW. If you grow it in a container, you'll need a large one, and you'll need to bury the container in the ground to over-winter it.

Yes, you can WS it, but don't put it out too early. It doesn't need cold stratification, and won't germinate until early to mid-spring anyway. The longer it sits out in moist circumstances, the greater the chance the seeds will rot. Sow it in April, on the surface and just patted down to insure contact the soil.

I have a beautiful clump of pink Muhly Grass, which was "supposed" to be white fountain grass. I purchased a dozen fountain grass plants last spring, and one of them urned out to be Muhly instead...to my delight!! I would like to grow MORE of these beautiful plants from this plant, if possible. I've never seen them available locally...if I could buy more I would!

Can I propogate the Muhly via seed...will it grow true? (have never propogated grasses) If so, how does one collect the seed? What's the procedure for sprouting it? Any help or guidance would be GREATLY appreciated!! :-)

I bought Pink Muhley grass this year as well.
And I JUST, got bloom and it's frost/ freezing time
here in KS. I mulched it heavily as Donn suggested
in another post, and am hoping that it makes it through
the winter in my zone 5b.
