Removing/ cutting up large Miscanthus

How do you remove/move/divide Miscanthus, or other large grasses? Is there a special trick?

I've tried to remove a couple I've had in the ground for two summers... and it was not easy! Kinda hard to remove a 100lb. rootball. Tried to cut up my Miscanthus 'Gigantus' and ended up using a small hatchet to chop it into sections.

I'm getting an axe next time.

noki,
I just remembered an excellent 'thread' on this same question. A number of OG people chimed in with some really good ideas.
Check it out at

Here is a link that might be useful: dividing really big grasses
