Shade tolerant Woodland Grass

I saw some pics of a grass called American beak grass, Diarrhena americana, on a nature preserve site in Ohio. This grass is apparently tolerant of shade under trees and makes a beautiful tan carpet in winter. The only thing similar might be river oats, Chasmanthium, but not as carpeting a beak grass. Has anybody grown this grass from seed? PrairieMoon.com says it needs a 60 day chill to break dormancy. Can this chill requirement be shortened or overcome? I want to start some indoors this winter to have the plugs ready to set out in the spring. I want to use it as a groundcover or in pots on a shaded porch. The Kemper Center for Home Gardening in St. Louis also has a pic.
