Windbreak Grass-Giant Saskatoon

I live in zone 5, but with the strong winds and dry conditions I've read I should use plants that will survive in zone 4. ((North Central Colorado, just east of the Rocky Mountains about 20 miles) I'd like to find something that grows really fast, one season or two, to plant as a windbreak. I have a strip about 5' wide where I can plant on my property. Is Giant Saskatoon a good choice, or is there something else? Anyone with experience with this grass?

What's giant saskatoon? never heard of that one.

The only 'Saskatoon' I know of is Amelanchier alnifolia, a wild woody fruit-bearing shrub in the Rose family. It's also called Saskatoon Serviceberry.

OK. Of all the things I've ever lost, I miss my mind the most.
It is called Giant Sacaton Grass. Silly me. :)

Sporobolus wrightii...AKA Big Sacaton, or, at High Country Gardens, Giant Sacatoon. Their Los Lunas selection appears to be taller than the basic Big Sacaton. Since it was originally bred for windbreak use, it should be just right for you. They list it as Zone 5, so you might be a trifle cold for it.
