Myrtle Taking Over!

Katrinawitch

I inherited a beautiful yard/garden when we moved into our house a few years ago. There is a long, narrow bed between our driveway and our neighbors, and the previous owners had huge, overgrown, ugly juniper-type evergreens planted there, which we took down that summer. They had myrtle planted all around the edges, which seemed to be in check, but when the bushes were gone the myrtle just went wild. I'm a beginner gardener, but I've learned enough to see that it spreads by rooting underground, and boy, does it move fast.

Anyone have experience in keeping myrtle in check, or do I have to keep weeding/ripping it up where I don't want it? I don't mind it much, because the leaves are attractive and the flowers pretty, but I don't want it taking over the whole bed!
