Groundcover for foot traffic

I am trying to find a groundcover to put in some places in our backyard. It needs to be able to handle foot traffic, as we have dogs in the yard. These spots are not in the running path of the dogs, but I do anticipate they will lay on it. Our winter temps often drop down to around 0 degrees, and our summer temps soar up around 100. Our average humidity in the summer is 50-60%. The soil and drainage is average. I had hoped to use woolly thyme, but found out that the thymes can't tolerate that much humidity. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am afraid that English Ivy will be my only option.
