Putting in ground cover.

Can't mow anymore , So when I kill of the grass ,do I have to dig up whats left or do I just plant the ground cover in the ground ,If that is possible that would be the best way for me. I have exercise induced asthma. I just can't work very hard or I get a major attack. So I'm looking for as simple as possible.

Hire a teenager to dig it out :-) . Grass grows from the root crown, so it's likely to come back otherwise. Also, loose soil makes it easier for the groundcover to root & spread.
