need help info on sowing white clover

| (Background: I am creating an edible landscape: berries, vines, fruit trees, grapes... I'm in central Oklahoma=last frost supposedly April 4th but sometimes as late as the 14th. I want to get rid of all grass and replace it with low growing clover. I understand it will fix the nitrogen and pose no problems to the producing plants and actually help crowd out weeds.) Question: I have purchased white clover (exact type unknown by the agri mill) but promised to be under 6 inches in full height. Catalogs refer to it as walkable and mowable after its established but say to plant after last frost. The farmer at the mill said to plant it between the end of February and before the beginning of April. When do I plant it? How long before I can walk on it without hurting it? Thank you! |

| Why........I worked so hard getting rid of the white clover from my lawn----now I can go out there (the honey bees aren't all over the lawn (ever step on one bare footed, fun trip to the hospital.) as I don't tend to put shoes on in the summer. But it is in the eye of the beholder, some look at clover as the savior of the lawn, and others as a nasty weed. Another benefit to getting rid of the clover is that there are fewer rabbits in my yard now, they love clover. |
