Seeking *native* (TN), evergreen, low-maint,. and inexpensive GC

Hello all. Yeah, that's a pretty lengthy list of requirements....add fast growing to it. I'm seeking a ground cover for an area that is mostly shaded by a red maple, partially shaded by nearby trees and has a smaller area that receives a hefty amt of sun. This ground cover will be used on the steep slope in my front yard and will be bordered by grass on the adjacent flat area.

Vinca minor and English Ivy seem to be the best candidates ... except for the fact that they aren't native to this area (Knoxville, TN - on the border between zones 5 and 6). Do you know of anything that's native to East TN? Or even native to the SE US .... then I can check on whether or not its native to this part of the country. If I can't go native, then I'm looking for least invasive .... and that probably eliminates Ivy.

Thanks!

Alex

You may consider Rose Verbena, although it performs best in full sun.

Check out Pachysandra procumbens (Allegheny spurge) and Chrysogonum virginianum. Not sure if they are reliably evergreen though. It kind of depends of how harsh of a winter you have.
