Is clover a Good idea??

I have a trouble spot in my front yard that I was thinking of planting with white clover. We have a slope from street level up to the house which is planted with vinca. The town put in new curbs right before we bought the house a few years ago and ripped up the vinca that was growing to the curb and now we have a swath of uncovered clay earth that needs something planed on it. At the moment there is some grass and weeds growing there, but it looks terrible. I was hoping that the vinca would spread and cover the area but it hasn't really helped in the 3 years that we have been there. I tried to plant some vinca there but it got stepped on and died and now we have some erosion issues.

I was thinking of getting some white clover seeds and sowing them there this spring. My lawn already has a lot of clover in it so I don't mind if it spreads around.

The area does get some foot traffic because we park on the street. Is this a good idea? Or would I be making a horrible mistake?

Any ideas would be appreciated!!
