If the area drains well and receives a fair amount of sun, Sedums will do fine there - easy to grow and they make great groundcovers. I have many different kinds of sedum growing in a bed out by our driveway. The bed is on a slope and the soil in it is the crappiest soil on our property - dry, almost pure sand - and it receives full sun most of the day...the sedums love it. You can practically just stick a couple of pieces of the stuff in some dirt and forget about them, they are that easy to grow. I never directly water mine. They get runoff from the other plants that I water in the same bed, and they are spreading like crazy.
