Hi, this answer may be too late, but in case you haven't decided yet--I planted lamium a couple of years ago. Here in northern VA (zone 7), it grows like a weed. I ripped all of mine out because it was taking over my (part-shade) perennial bed. If you get it, definitely buy from a big box store, don't pay a premium for it at an expensive nursery.

On the other hand, I haven't a lot of luck with heliochysum. It's beautiful and have only used it in containers, but somehow it always dies on me. Check your your light conditions as well, I think it needs sun.

Thank you! I did just go and get some lamium today--and paid about 2.50 for a plant about the size of my hand... nice and full though. It was at a nursery--I hope I didn't overpay. I posted that question, and then realized that heliochysum isn't even hardy in my zone! So that pretty much made the decision for me. Thanks for your reply---it is the only thing I am planting in this area (bordered by a boxwood hedge) and it is off by itself---so glad to know it grows like a weed!
