Sounds like some kind of sedum, although I can't be sure without a picture. I wouldn't use sedum as a ground cover unless you don't have any foot traffic in the area.

Perhaps Sedum acre, "Gold Moss"?

sounds exactly like the sedum that 'came with the house'... starts off as rosettes in the spring, and then gets longer until it looks like a charm bracelet with diamond-shaped leaves?

no idea what it's name is, but it will take anything but full shade, and seems impervious to everything.

thanks! i looked that up, and it definitely looks close, if not exact. anyway i still haven't gotten to go grab any of it from my father yet, i've had a million other things to do in the yard... but now when i do go get it, i'll know not to put it in shade!! :)
