Cheddar pinks for groundcover?

wodka

We built a new home almost 3 years ago and the landscaper suggested planting variagated liriope in one of our front beds - full sun. They have never done anything - very puny. From what I've read since, they could use a little shade. In doing a little research, I've read that Cheddar Pink Dianthus not only make a statement with the flowers, but the leaves/groundcover remains attractive throughout the year. Have any of you used the Cheddar Pinks and can vouch for it? Suggestions welcome!
