gross brain tissue-like growth in sedum- what the heck?

I have disturbing sedum or perhaps I am the one disturbed!
I noticed a VERY thick stalk with a mutated head growing from my sedum- more like a flattened huge broccoli floret!
It turned my stomach! Then I noticed more! Ick.... I pulled them out. I thought "there are some weird mutations going on in the sedum 'angelina'!"
Now I see the same growths in the sedum fulda glut.
What is going on?
