Keeping Groundcovers from lawn

Hi, I've posted a few questions about various ground covers in the past, and always got good responses. Now I need to mine your wisdom once again. Essentially, how would I keep the following ground covers out of my grass lawn?:

1) Vinca minor. I know that wherever the stems touch soil it roots, and can be invasive. Would a simple black plastic edging contain it? I know some of you dislike the black plastic, but its easier for me to install than a rock or brick border. Would the vinca simply grow over it?

2) Ajuga reptens. Same question, different plant. I think this one spreads via underground rhizomes. Would that black plastic edging contain it adequately?

3) Pachysandra terminalis. Basically what I asked for #2.

What other types of borders should I consider to separate the lawn and plantings? All advice welcome.

Thanks in advance!

John
