What type of groundcover is this?

I'm guessing this is a ground cover of some type. My parents don't remember planting this at all, but it is pretty. It appears to be trying to put out some sort of long stem along the ground. It's growing in partial shade in a large clump of poor soil on the west side of my house.

If this is a decent ground cover (and not something that will cause a horrible rash or something), would it be a decent ground cover under a river birch in our front lawn? Will it grow up the trunk of the tree, or remain prostrate?

Whatever it is, it's attractive. But if its going to get out of hand, I'd like to take it out now. BTW, the last few years its grown there, its been a slow grower if that helps with the ID. Thanks!

Looks like you have Vinca, it's also called periwinkle, and it has a pretty blue bloom. It's a keeper.

Yeah, I was thinking it looked like either a variegated vinca or euonymus. I wasn't exactly sure though.

If this is a Vinca, any ideas what variety it is? I wouldn't mind transplanting this and adding a few more to the new location.

This looks like my variagated euonymous which has been in my bed for years, is up to 10 inches tall and roots where ever it touches the ground. Mary

I'm not enough of a botanist to tell the difference between a Euonymus fortunei and a Vinca, but I'm leaning toward the Vinca. If it flowers (usually purple) this spring, it's probably Vinca.

It's Euonymous. This variety tries to revert back to a solid green plant so you have to trim back the green & encourage the varigated foilage unless you like the green.
