Groundcover from Seeds?

After a lifetime in apartments, I'm moving into a brand new house in about a month, and I know (after a two-week long crash course in home ownership) that the best time to plant ground cover is in the fall, which is actually a relief. I'm trying to get some planning done, though, and the one question for which I can't find a definitive answer is whether it's possible (or even desirable) to plant ground cover from seeds. AS to what type of ground cover (primarily along the entryway and the front of the street-facing livinroom )At the same time that I'd be planting ground cover, I'd also be planting TTTF (probably Bullseye), so I'd be in seed-planting mode anyway. Any help for this soon-to-be-rookie homeowner will be greatly appreciated.
