Covering a River Rock Berm

Hi everyone,

This is my first posting in years on gardenweb.

I am having a japanese garden installed now that makes use of a huge quantity of river rock. In the middle of the yeard there is a river rock mound/berm with a large topiary scotch pine on it. The landscaper used so much river rock though, that I'd really like to green things up a little and add some sort of creeping ground cover to this rock berm. They were planning on using Cotoneaster Dammeri but I have read that it attracts bees, and my daughter is terrified of them (bees that is, not cotoneaster plants :).

If anyone has any recommendations I would love to hear them!
