Creeping Thyme as a groundcover in SoCal

Hi All,

I'm looking for a very short groundcover to go over a sandy "backyard" of about 200 square feet. I don't like iceplant (the default ground cover here in southern California), and I'd read that Thymus serpyllum would work in dry, sandy soil. Has anyone pulled this off? Or does the plant really like moister soils?

If Thymus serpyllum won't work, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Barrett
