when to mulch.

I just planted two new gardens with a variety of cannas, liatris,hydrangas,gladiolas, elephant ears, etc. Everything is starting as a bulb except for the hydrangas. I want to know if I should apply a layer of mulch now, or should I wait until the start to grow out of the soil. Thanks.

You can mulch now, just don't cover the plants you just put in!
