| My small backyard has patches of grass with dandelions and lots of what looks like lambs ear growing. Yesterday I had two gigantic Norway maples taken down that were infested with carpenter ants. The yard is now thoroughly compacted after having a bucket truck drive around in it and also in full sun. Is there something I can plant for the season that will help break up the compacted soil, keep the weeds to a minimum, and replenish some tilth? A covercrop that can be tilled in next fall?
It doesn't matter what it looks like. I plan to use this season to work on the soil before I plant much. From what I've read crown vetch might be more than I could handle myself, though I welcome opinions. The yard also has a network of roots from the maples! |
