planting on slope

I currently have bermuda grass on a steep slope. Sod, I think, controls erosion better than anything. I sure don't want erosion problems. I would like, if possible, to kill the grass and plant something else there. What could I plant, full sun, zone 7, clay soil. I am afraid to because what I plant might not prevent erosion as well as sod.

What do you all say?? Leave the grass, or plant something more interesting. If so, what?
